What Does It Mean to Learn?

Learning is more than just studying—it’s about discovering something new and making it stick in your memory. Think about it: What do you enjoy learning? Is it a hobby, a skill, or a language? What things come easily to you? These questions will help lead you to understand your learning process better. Some of the best learning happens when you don’t even notice—like picking up new words while watching movies!

Connect to your purpose

Why are you doing this? For a job, travel, or just for fun? The stronger your purpose, the better it is for your memory.

Keep your ambition alive by:

  • Choosing activities you enjoy.

  • Focusing on topics that feel relevant and important to you.

  • Using tools that grab your attention and build your memory.

  • Get comfortable making mistakes.

  • Stay away from judgmental people - this will help your confidence (LEO School).

How Does Learning Work?

“Play is the answer to how anything new comes about.”

Learning happens automatically and we do not always know when we are learning. Memory processes are essential and under the right circumstances, they can occur more effectively. Ever heard the phrase, 'Study smarter, not harder'? Now you will have more tools to understand how to do that for yourself.

To master a skill, you need a mix of strategies:

  • Psychological: Understand how your mind works. What helps you focus? What distracts you?

  • Biological: Take care of your brain and body. Eat well, stay hydrated, and sleep enough.

  • Social: Surround yourself with people who support your growth.

Becoming more aware of these three aspects of your life will increase your capacity to learn in the ways the benefit you the best.

Before starting a task, take a moment to reflect on your mindset, physical state, and surroundings, then adjust your approach accordingly.
